Figure Drawing

Artist Statement

Figure drawing has always been a direct way for me to study presence, movement, and the structure of the human body. Working from life requires a different kind of attention — one that responds not only to proportion and anatomy, but also to weight, balance, gesture, rhythm, and the subtle shifts that occur from moment to moment.

Some of these drawings were made quickly, using line and wash to capture an immediate impression. Others developed through longer observation, allowing structure, posture, and spatial relationships to become more considered. Across both approaches, I am interested in the point where observation becomes interpretation.

Rather than seeking a fixed or idealized image of the figure, these studies record the changing relationship between the subject, the act of looking, and the movement of the hand. Each drawing becomes a trace of a particular moment of attention.
